The modern dance called mambo 'break on two' is actually a variation of salsa derived in New York City, and danced to salsa or son music. See Salsa for more information.

It shares its name with a cuban dance, quite different from salsa, or ballroom Mambo, and still danced in Cuba to mambo music.

Mambo is also listed as a competitive dance style in American Style 'Rhythm' category.
